Hungary to host the European University Rowing Championships in 2027

The European University Sports Association (EUSA) decided on 6th May in Ljubljana that the Hungarian bid will host the European University Rowing Championships (EURC) in 2027.

The bid was prepared jointly by the Hungarian Association of University and College Sports (MEFS), the University of Óbuda (ÓE) and the Hungarian Rowing Federation (MESZ) and submitted to the EUSA in February 2024.  According to the bid, the Rowing EEB will be held in Sukoró from 11 to 14 July 2027.

In addition to MEFS, several partner organisations are involved in the organisation, including Óbuda University, the Hungarian Rowing Federation, the National Sports Agency and the relevant local authorities.

The bid was supported by Dr. Ádám Schmidt, State Secretary for Sports at the Ministry of Human Resources, Ottó Cseh, President of the Hungarian Rowing Federation, Dr. habil. Levente Kovács, Rector of Óbuda University, Prof. Dr. h. c. Lajos Mocsai, President of the MEFS, and Péter Juhász, Secretary General of the MEFS, as well as Gyöngyi Éva Hegyi Mészáros, Mayor of Sukoró.

MEFS is committed to organising regular international university sports events at the highest possible level in accordance with EUSA requirements. The newly built facilities of the Kovács Katalin National Kayak-Canoe Academy on Lake Velence would host the 2027 Rowing EEB.

Hosting the 2027 European University Rowing Championships would make a significant contribution to future international rowing events in Hungary and to the development of domestic university sport, a growing area worthy of integration into the international sporting scene.
